At last.

As much as it is disturbing and heartbreaking to learn that such things are happening at all, it is even more heartbreaking that it’s happening in the industry that we are involved in. As much it is absolutely dreadful to hear things like this happen, it seems that with all other allegations regarding sexual harassment, it was only matter of time for the fashion industry to get involved with these things.

As some of you might be aware yesterday ( Saturday 13th January 2018) New York Times has released the newest set of allegations regarding sexual harassment. This time they relate to Mario Testino and Bruce Weber. The piece by New York Times includes allegations from both men’s assistants, models and other people that have been working with the two men.

Additionally to having testimonies from various people that held or are holding a various position within the fashion industry. In my personal opinion as much as the alleged problems are already serious this sort of thing makes this even more serious and complex.

Above’s quote makes it even scarier. I feel that if models would be in a position to have a say in who they work with would possibly make it more comfortable for everyone. Additionally, if you would have another pair of hand taking part in the casting of the photographer then it might be easier to find the traits that might suggest the photographers as sexual predators. I do understand that due to nature of models’ work they might not have appropriate skills to be given the power to decide on their own which photographers they should work with as well as in the commercial environment it might not be 100% appropriate to let the models decide who they should work with. But behavior like the one described in the above’s quate, in my opinion, gives too much power to the photographers and creates an environment in which they might feel comfortable to what their filthy minds desire.

For a long time statements made by witnesses and victims have been not treated as strong evidence, I do understand that it might be easy to fake these statements and destroy someone’s life. In this case, however, then I hope that this belief will have little reason for taking any amount of space, as there have been cases in the past where money and power were enough to keep predators safe.

As a lot of us know it has been scientifically proven that some people are prone to overusing their position if you will give them too much power. And there have been some sexual harassment allegations in the fashion industry in the past.

Based on the things available to us now there are testimonies supporting both sides of an argument. Therefore appropriate people should be kept under pressure to investigate these things properly. And I deeply hope that someone being more powerful and having more money will not influence the outcome of the investigation.

However, if the investigation will be conducted properly and they will conclude that mentioned photographers have been accused of being sexual predators unjustly, then the accusers should be forced to take full responsibility.
